BIOPAP® awarded with the “ADI Packaging Design Award” at MARCA

BIOPAP® Winner of the “ADI Packaging Design Award 2024”, a collaboration between ADI and the MARCA Fair in Bologna. The award went to BIOPAP GENIUS MEAL TRAY®, the revolutionary multi-compartment, highly efficient, compostable and entirely circular meal tray. On the second day of MARCA Fiera Bologna, the judging panel motivated this important award as follows: A company research aimed at the total elimination of plastic materials with a view to high-performance paper containers. An equally significant aspect, in addition to the technical elements, is their contribution to the redefinition of a food distribution process in hospitals, RSA facilities and the catering sector.

The award is now in its fifth edition, promoted by PEFC Italy and Legambiente (the Italian Environment fund) to support well managed forest practices in the internal areas of the country.

BIOPAP S.r.l. Benefit Company was awarded as Best Product of Forest Origin ”for having been able to combine industrial production and environmental care, creating a system of compostable and biodegradable food containers and trays, with forest-based raw materials of European origin and PEFC certified supply chains, creating furthermore, a production plant designed to have zero CO2 emissions, zero process waste and completely self-sufficient in energy.“ A much appreciated recognition from 2 leading independent NGO’s and the National Farmer’s Association that sees us as “forerunners and visionaries”, “creators of new paradigms”, “innovators, driving by example who believed in the value of circularity combined with efficiency”. A commitment to the value of #Sustainability as a catalyst for the community, supported by long term investments and continuous Research & Development. During the ceremony Filippo Rossi said: “Since the beginning of our activity we have thought of creating products that, in addition to being functional for the end user, would impact on the environment as little as possible and that everything that was upstream of the product should be consistent with the product itself. As an example, the renewable raw materials used to produce our BIOPAP® trays come from certified European forests and 100% of our product range is certified PEFC”.

BIOPAP® leader in the production of fully compostable food containers, continues to receive recognition for its innovative products. The BIOPAP Genius Meal Tray® system of trays has been awarded by the judging panel of the HOST Innovation Award, promoted by Fiera Milano in collaboration with POLI.design, in the Green SMART Label category, which is reserved for technological and socio-environmental innovations. The award ceremony is scheduled for October 13th this year during the HOST Milano exhibition at FieraMilano. BIOPAP®’s patented revolutionary system, the Genius Meal Tray®, allows for the use of a single integrated and fully compostable meal tray to prepare, store in a refrigerated environment, heat, and serve a complete meal, including appetizers, main courses with side dishes, and desserts/fruits, with one section being hot and the other cold. This innovation translates into a significant reduction in the time required for meal preparation, distribution, and collection. At the end of the service, the BIOPAP Genius Meal Tray® is directly sent for composting along with any food leftovers, eliminating the need for additional handling during collection. This system makes the management of meals for communities entirely circular, thanks to a fully biodegradable tray certified as compostable according to the UNI EN 13432:202 standard, made entirely from natural cellulose-derived materials. The nomination of BIOPAP® MAP patented trays for modified atmosphere packaging to the CFIA 2023 innovation trophy is a further confirmation of BIOPAP®’s capacity for innovation and of our structured presence in France. We are proud and happy about this result among more than 100 innovations with a resounding echo in all specialized media. As part of our ongoing R&D, we have developed a new material and manufacturing technology to achieve large-scale production of the first recyclable and EN 13432 compostable paper-based food tray suitable for sealing and preservation of food in modified atmosphere. BIOPAP® MAP was chosen as a finalist by the prestigious CFIA Jury in the « Packaging Section », for the innovation that it brings to the food industry in terms of technical, environmental and sanitary performance. With BIOPAP® MAP trays we offer to the ready meals sector many advantages such as ease of use for consumers who can use them from the refrigerator to the microwave and traditional oven up to 145°C. An ideal container to heat the food and consume it in the tray without using a plate and then having to wash it, thus wasting water and time. BIOPAP® awarded with the prestigious “ADI Packaging Design Award 2022”

Established by the Industrial Design Association to enhance the most innovative Italian packaging, ADI PACKAGING DESIGN AWARD 2022 has been awarded to BIOPAP for the innovative and patented MAP containers. Celebrating its fifth edition, ADI not only rewards the packaging itself but also intangible aspects of the production process along the lines of research and innovation. Filippo Rossi, managing director and co-founder of BIOPAP®, received the prestigious award on the occasion of Marca, the Italian trade fair trade show organized by BolognaFiere with ADM, the Association of Modern Distribution. A recognition for the research and innovation developed with BIOPAP® MAP containers that offer a renewable cellulose-based alternative for the packaging of foods in a modified atmosphere with a very high oxygen barrier and perfectly compostable that can be used in the freezer, oven and microwave. The best way to enhance healthier foods from controlled supply chains in a container that increases shelf life without preservatives. BIOPAP MAP is pleasant to the touch, printable, functional and easily disposed of in the organic waste to become a new resource in compost and return to agriculture, thus completing an endless virtuous cycle.

BIOPAP® was proudly officially presenting on the 16-03-2022 its new ground breaking patented innovation BIOPAP® MAP at the Italian Pavilion EXPO DUBAI 2020. Organized by ITA (Italian Trade Agency) in this prestigious frame, 9 selected SME with core focus on sustainability, have displayed their spear head specific know-how to the community and local investors. BIOPAP® has been selected for its patented cellulose-based food tray suitable for Modified Atmosphere Packaging, biodegradable compostable and recyclable, resisting from -80°C to 145°C. 4 years of intense R&D development have led to both a material and converting technology development featuring, high Oxygen barrier, Gas tight sealability, heat resistance to microwave and traditional ovens though being fully compostable at industrial scale with CIC certification. BIOPAP® MAP is a new frontier in food preparation and service allowing best organoleptic food experience, longer food shelf life without preservatives and food waste reduction. Another big step towards sustainability for the food industry bringing renewable, non intensive raw materials to accompany food hand in hand in preparing, sealing storing, reheating and serving it. Hofmann Menu-Manufaktur, Quality leader in the German modern catering market, wins the gold medal of the German Packaging Award 2020 in the Sustainable development category. This prize is awarded annually by the prestigious German Packaging Institute (DVI). The choice of biodegradable and compostable BIOPAP® trays, which are resistant from freezer to any type of oven, allowed the German Caterer to persuade the jury.

The patented, sustainable, compostable and re-usable BIOPAP® trays are being used by Spreafico (http://www.spreafico.net/) to packs and distribute the 100% Italian Abate pears. With its campaign Spreafico, supports the AIRC foundation a major Italian research centre for cancer treatments. The precious advices of the World Cancer Research Fund (https://www.wcrf.org/) and the recipes exclusively made by Chef Sergio Maria Teutonico can be downloaded from every QR printed on each tray using the innovative ink jet printing technology at Ghelfi Ondulati. 12 different art patterns to be discovered and collected. BIOPAP® trays fulfil again an array of functions: protective packaging, communication support, re-usable in home kitchen food preparation and then easily disposable into organic waste to become compost feeding the agricultural circular economy. BIOPAP® on the podium at the “Packaging Innovation Award” in Chile

The prestigious price to our biodegradable and compostable BIOPAP® food trays has been awarded on October the 10th in Santiago. The University of Santiago has held the ceremony within the Packaging Innovation Day. The contest was focussed on sustainable food packaging and was promoted by the University of Santiago, Label Chile (Innovation packaging center) and CO-INVENTA, the national platform for food packaging innovation. The jury was formed by prominent Research and Development personalities such as José Galotto (Director of USACH/LABEN Chile/Co-Inventa), Alan García (SOFOFA, Sociedad de Fomento Fabril), Rocío Fonseca (CORFO, Corporación de Fomento , entrepreunariat), and Guillermo González (Jefe Departamento de Economía circular from the Ministry of the environment. Our excellent Marie Chantal Gallaz of Pacific Trading has supported the candidature of our sustainable and innovative food trays and has collected the 3rd prize. The Jury wanted to prize the renewable and non-intensive supply chain, the care at minimising the environmental impact of our processes and the easy end-of-life through composting in a never ending natural cycle.
